New Abbey Artists Workshop is situated in the village of New Abbey seven miles south of Dumfries in Southwest Scotland. The village is named after the 'Abbey of Sweetheart' which was founded in 1273 by the Lady Devorgilla of Galloway in memory of her late husband John Balliol. Although now roofless, the Abbey still standsreminding us of the enduring skills of 13th centaury stonemasons.
The hills Criffel and Knockendoch provide a spectacular backdrop and an opportunity to enjoy a challening hill climb with amazing views. A water powered Cornmill, Shambellie Costume Museum, Walled Garden, two pubs, a tearoom and a village shop are just some of the attractions visitors can enjoy.
The Artists Workshop is only a few metres from the Abbey. Visitors can meet the artist, browse art and craft works on display and maybe even try their hand at one of the crafts practised by the artist.
