'Scary Dragon', 'Dog Chasin' Butterfly' and 'Unicorn'
They all started out as small batiks on silk but when I have to retreat to the house and work indoors during the winter months, I cheer myself up with embellishment.
There is something very cosy and reassuring about quilting in the winter months, so I first quilt the design and then cheer it (and me) up with surface design, embroidery beading and embelishment.
After the intial quilting I have a sort of plan, but not a definate one so each bag is a creative journey for me, and I stop, finish each peice when I feel I have reached journey's end. Sometimes I get to a point where I can't decide what to do so I lay it to one side and work on something else till I know which way to go next.
This does create several work in progress heaps and I always have several projects in progress at the same time. While I'm working on one, esepcially when beading (which takes ages) I'm usually thinking about what I'm going to do with another one when I finish the one I'm working on.
If enlightenment grips me, I abandon the task in hand and go back to a previously started project and If that sounds untidy- it is!. I just have to be a lttle bit organised about where I put things-nothing more frustrating than being inspired when you can't find the what you are looking for! Almost as bad as loosing keys!
Needless to say, with this level of creative chaos, every item is a one off.
